Manifestevil
Manifestevil is a breakcore/IDM/glitchcore/hardcore/black noise producer and visual artist from Sydney Australia. Beginning in the early 2000s with live digital and analogue equipment and tracker software. His music is influenced heavily by horror, splatter films, monster movies and Hitchcockian suspense as well as black metal and the occult. Many producers sample horror but Manifestevil wasn't just interested in taking sample grabs of famous horror villain quotes. It was the score and the sound work that intrigued him the most. Like a hardcore Argento. He learned to harness distorted breakbeats and noise by juxtaposing it against the impending dread and almost silences used to grip audiences in film. The way orchestras and strings and repetitive single piano notes were used to build suspense and then just as easily create heart pounding terror. This restrained approach to creating tracks forces punters to not just listen to throwaway breakbeat and cut up samples. But rather short sound creations that have a particular aesthetic. There's as much Ennio Morricone, Goblin and Bernard Herrmann in his music, as there is Doormouse, Venetian Snares and Shizuo. Aside from the mystique and craftsmanship of film score and suspense soundtracks. Manifestevil is also a great fan of the schlock and cheap splatter and effects of 70s, 80s and 90s horror films. Live he would often stalk his equipment while wearing a blood splattered labcoat and homemade mask and brandishing a knife. This often delighted and intrigued Sydney warehouse punters who witnessed this. A great fan of the schlocky side of metal and punk like White Zombie and The Misfits he may also start throwing metal mashups and repeating shrieks and scream loops at punters who think they may have him figured out. When not producing electronic music. He can also be found playing guitar in metal bands and creating black and white physical artwork or digital horror themed visual creations.
